The Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Centre provides 84 permanent lockers for doctoral students and exam candidates of Humboldt-Universität. These can be used for a maximum of 5 months until the end of the respective semester and can also be used overnight. During the period of use you will receive a locker with a key from us.

Application
 

The application procedure for doctoral students and exam candidates of the HU is closed.
Still available permanent lockers will be allocated to all HU members at the above mentioned times.
 


Requirements:

  •     Doctoral student at the HU and enrolled or registered at the HU 

        or  

  •     Student of the HU and writing a thesis (diploma thesis, master's thesis, bachelor's thesis)

        or  

  •     Student of the HU and registered for the state examination


Procedure

After receipt of all applications, we will contact you promptly by e-mail. In this email you will be asked to prove your doctoral candidate or exam candidate status. You will receive a final confirmation and a copy of the user agreement only after all required documents have been checked. 

Required proof

Doctoral candidat: The certificate of study or the certificate of registration are accepted as proof. A supervision agreement is not sufficient as proof.
Exam candidate: As proof of the completion of an academic thesis, we require the confirmation of the examination office or your supervising professor. For this purpose, a pre-prepared form for the supervisors will automatically be sent to the "winners".
State examination candidate: As proof we need the confirmation of the examination office.

Where are the lockers?

They are located in the basement of the Grimm Centre, lockers 1-84.
 

Do I need my own padlock?

No. These special lockers are equipped with a library lock. You will receive the key from us on loan.
 

When and how are the calls for applications made?

Calls are made 2 times a year to apply for a permanent locker. We inform about the calls and the activation of the online application form via web news and through our social media channels. After the call, you can apply via the online form.
 

Who can apply and what should I bear in mind?

Doctoral students and exam candidates of Humboldt-Universität who are enrolled or registered at HU can apply. Please note the information listed under "required certificates". You will only receive a final confirmation and a copy of the user agreement after the evidence has been checked.
 

When and how will I know whether I will receive a locker?

 After we receive your application, we will contact you promptly by email. This will ask you to submit the required documents.

 

What do I do if my locker is lost or damaged?

If you notice any damage, please contact us immediately using the contact details below. Let us know which locker it is and what the problem is.

If you have lost the key, the security guard can break open the lock for you in an emergency. Please report the loss/opening by the security guard immediately by e-mail.

A loss report must then be completed and sent to us by e-mail.

The cost of replacement and engraving of the padlock is to be borne in full by the borrower(s).
Please note that the library and the university are not liable for loss or damage to the contents in the locker.
 

What do I do if I no longer need the locker?

If you no longer need the locker before the loan period expires, you can hand in the key at any time via the return mailbox. We will then return the key and you will receive a return receipt by e-mail. Make sure to clear the locker completely and clean it if necessary.
