Agricultural Sciences

Information about the Holdings

The university library’s agricultural department holds current research literature as well as historical library material. The library has systematically acquired agricultural literature since modern Agricultural Sciences emerged in the 19th century. After 1990, the holdings were expanded with extensive international collections from other libraries, among them the Central Agricultural Library of the German Democratic Republic.

Based on the research interests of the Albrecht Daniel Thaer Institute for Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, the library’s current acquisition policy prioritizes textbooks as well as research literature. Its focus lies on the core research areas of the institute, namely Crop Sciences, Animal Sciences, and Agronomics. In addition, a selection of literature from related fields, e.g. Nutrition or Ecology, is supplied.

The number of electronic resources acquired has increased in the recent past. At present most periodicals are predominantly accessible in electronic form. HU students and staff have access to these resources from any location via VPN.

Please visit Subject Holdings for additional information on the location of the collections and their accessibility on site.
