Course Reserves and Personal Reserves

Course Reserves

Information for Students

The lecturers have compiled the books that are important for their courses in the Reserve Collections. Since as many participants as possible should read this literature, the collections are blocked for lending.

The Reserve Collections are usually kept close to the respective subject collection. In the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum, the Reserve Collections are located opposite the information desks on the second to fourth floors. Further Reserve Collections are located at the corresponding branch libraries.

Information for Lecturers

If you are a lecturer at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and would like to compile literature for your courses in a course reserve, please send this form (German only) with your literature requests to ub.semesterapparate@hu-berlin.de.
Please send us the form at the beginning of the semester.

Personal Reserves

The literature in the Personal Reserves Collection ("Handapparat") is not made available in the Grimm-Zentrum or at other branch libraries. This is kept for an extended period of time at the workplace of the specified professor or person in charge.

Their contact details (secretariats) can be found in the Central Information System (ZIS) of the HU or in the overview of all faculties and institutes. Please contact the secretariat or the responsible student assistant directly.

Background:

The books in the Personal Reserve are the property of the university and belong to the holdings of the university library. They are placed outside the library or in project rooms at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for a longer period of time because they were acquired by chair holders from appointment, third-party funding or other project funds and are available in the respective department or institute for their research work.
