Profile

The library at the Centre for Japanese Language and Culture belongs to the Branch Library for Asian and African Studies. It comprises holdings of more than 30,000 volumes and 400 mainly Japanese periodicals from various fields of science with 270 current periodical subscriptions (including gift and exchange items).

The main focus of the collection at present is on the pre-modern era of Japanese art and humanities. Furthermore there are research collections on Japanese customs and etiquette, festivals and holidays as well as film history.

The library at the location of the Mori-Ôgai-Gedenkstätte with works by and on Mori Ôgai is part of the Centre.
