Access and hygiene measures on site

What measures apply to working on site?

At all locations, also non-HU members can work on site again. At the Grimm Zentrum homezone and break disk regulations apply.

Proof of 3G (full immunization status, proof of recovery, or negative test result no more than 24 hours old) is required to use library locations.

HU employees can be tested at the test centers in the auditorium of the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum (side entrance Geschwister-Scholl-Straße 1/3) and at Rudower Chaussee 24 in Adlershof. Two tests per week are free of charge for HU employees.

Wearing a medical mask is mandatory when entering the library, moving around the building and on all traffic routes, as well as at the workplace. This should preferably be an FFP2 mask, but at least a surgical mask.

In addition, please adhere to the applicable distance and hygiene rules. If you have cold symptoms (e.g., fever or cough), do not enter the University Library.

What measures apply to the borrowing and return of media?

For access to the interior of the libraries, i.e. also for borrowing and returning media, 3G proof is required.

Return machines and the return counter in the foyer of the Grimm-Zentrum can be used without a 3G certificate.

How is my presence documented?

According to the current regulation of the Berlin Senate, you are obliged to document your presence at workstations in the University Library. To do so, please use the QR codes attached to the individual workstations or reading room areas and then register on the website you accessed. By registering, you agree that your time of stay will be stored and that, in the event that contact tracing is necessary under infection control law, your personal data will be transmitted to the responsible public health department.

No data will be stored other than contact information, workplace name and time. Those who do not have a smartphone can enter the link given next to the QR code into the web browser of a computer. The registration can be repeated as often as you want, you do not have to log out.

Borrowing and user account

Can I borrow media?

For access to the interior of the libraries, i.e. also for borrowing and returning media, a 3G certificate is required. For more information, see Access and Hygiene Measures.

We ask for your understanding that, depending on the situation, we may have to adjust the regulations at short notice. Please check our website again shortly before your visit.

I have borrowed media from various branch libraries. Can I return them to one location?

All users (HU members and non-HU members) can return media from all locations at the location visited. Exceptions are the branch libraries for Asian-/African Studies, Japanese Studies, Classical Archaeology and the Branch Library of Law. Please use the self loan machines. If there are no self loan machines, deposit boxes are available. Media can be deposited here at your own risk. Please note that you will only receive a return receipt after the item has been transported to the respective branch library.

I am not an HU member. Can I currently use the loan and return service?

Non-HU members can also borrow media.

I am a member of Charité. What rights do I have at the University Library of Humboldt-Universität?

All students and employees of Charité are considered HU members and have the same rights as HU students or HU employees with regard to current services.

Are there currently any late fees?

If the loan period is exceeded, a reminder will be issued for a fee. If it is not possible for you to visit the library for the return, please send us the media by mail before the expiration of the loan period.
