FAQ: Services of the University Library during the Corona Pandemic

Hygiene recommendations

What infection control measures are recommended?

The obligation to wear a mask at Berlin's universities does no longer apply. The reduced general risk of infection in public life as well as the expiry of the SARS-CoV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Regulation of the federal government on 25.05.2022 prompts the university' s executive board to cancel the FFP2 mask obligation at HU.

Nevertheless: The protection of the health of students and employees of the HU remains a central concern and the risk of infection still exists. It is therefore strongly recommended to maintain practised and proven measures of infection protection on one's own responsibility. These include, for example, the 3G recommendation and wearing a mask, at least wherever the minimum distance cannot be maintained or several people work together for longer periods. This is not only for personal protection, but also for the protection of colleagues and fellow students. Solidarity remains essential.

If you have cold symptoms (e.g., fever or cough), do not enter the University Library.

Working on site

Can I work on site?

At all locations, also non-HU members can work on site again. At the Grimm Zentrum homezone and break disk regulations apply.

The parent-child rooms are available, but currently no play bags are issued. Admission to the parent-child area in the Grimm-Zentrum is limited to a maximum of six people. Unfortunately, the ball pool in the Grimm-Zentrum cannot be used at this time. Movable toys and books have been removed for hygienic reasons. Access cards for the parent-child area can be obtained from the security guard.

Please also note the information provided by the HU Family Office.

No, not any longer.

Can I participate in online events at the library locations?

Yes. At Grimm-Zentrum, the group work areas on the cubes are suitable for this purpose. They are accessible from the foyer, but only for HU members. The door opener works with your campus card.
You are also welcome to use the four freely available study carrels on the 5th floor for this purpose.

Borrowing and User Account

I have borrowed media from various branch libraries. Can I return them to one location?

All users (HU members and non-HU members) can return media from all locations at the location visited. Exceptions are the branch libraries for Asian-/African Studies, Japanese Studies, Classical Archaeology and the Branch Library of Law. Please use the self loan machines. If there are no self loan machines, deposit boxes are available. Media can be deposited here at your own risk. Please note that you will only receive a return receipt after the item has been transported to the respective branch library.
