Requirements for deposit copies

What must be considered when submitting the deposit copies?

The number of copies to be submitted depends on the Doctoral Theses Guidelines (German) of your faculty.
In case of doubt, please contact the doctoral or habilitation office responsible for you.

If the dissertation is not published by a publisher, paper copies must be handed in at the university library. The copies to be handed in must meet certain quality requirements.

According to the doctoral regulations, four cases can be distinguished:

  1. Only paper copies must be submitted without any additional requirements. (More detailed information)
  2. Paper copies must be submitted, one of which must be bound according to RAL-RG 495. (more detailed information)
  3. Four durable bound copies must be submitted for electronic publication on the edoc server. (More detailed information)
  4. For electronic publication on the edoc server, a copy bound in accordance with RAL-RG 495 must be submitted. (More detailed information)

If you have any questions, please contact the Theses Collection Point.

Why are the quality requirements for paper copies relatively high?

We archive your dissertation in perpetuity and make it available for use in a library. Sometimes these are the only copies that will later exist of this edition. It is therefore urgent to set certain requirements for the production and durability of the paper copies, otherwise long-term use cannot be guaranteed.
