The Theological Branch Library

The Library is accommodated in the building of the HU Theological Faculty at Burgstraße. The collection consists of contemporary research literature and historical items. It presently comprises 320,000 volumes and 220 current periodicals and ranks among the largest subject libraries in Germany.

The books are either shelved open-access or held in closed stacks. About one fourth of the collection is open-access. The holdings consist of mainly source and reference collections and important journals and monographs. They are systematically shelved pursuant to their disciplines. Three quarters of the holdings, among them historically interesting items and specialist literature are either housed in the closed stacks of the Library or at the HU depository.

The Theological Branch Library offers

  • about 100 study desks
  • 15 research stations
  • one room for group study with six desks
  • four study carrels
  • three copy rooms with two card copiers and printers and one overhead scanner (payable by MensaCard)
  • one self-issue and returns machine with account and fee function code (MensaCard)
  • one MensaCard charger for banknotes up to fifty Euros
  • Wi-Fi internet access everywhere in the building

The PC room of the department with six workstations is on the ground floor.


Library of the Institute of Church and Judaism

The library, which comprises a stock of 7,000 volumes and 25 current periodicals, is situated on the second floor (2.OG). The collection is held on open access and may be used pursuant to the regulations of the library.
