Individual workstations on the reading room terraces

You can work in a particularly concentrated manner on our reading room terraces, which form the architectural heart of the Grimm-Zentrum.
A total of 252 individual workstations are available to you here on nine terraces extending over five floors, which are equipped with sockets and reading lamps.

The reading room terraces are part of the HU-Homezone.

Individual workstations at the window fronts

You will find over 1300 workstations in the Grimm-Zentrum.
Along the window fronts on the floors, you can work quietly and comfortably at individual workstations. All are equipped with power sockets and reading lamps. In some cases, reading screens are also installed for connecting your own devices via HDMI or USB-C (cables available). These areas belong to the HU-Homezone.

The reading screens can be found in the following areas:

  • 2nd floor, west window front
  • 3rd floor, west window front
  • 4th floor, east window front
  • 5th floor, east window front

Solo Boxes

Our solo boxes are designed for participation in video conferences and for quiet working and telephone calls. They are located on the ground floor and on the 3rd floor on the west and east side. There is also one box each on the 5th and 7th floors on the east side.

  • The boxes are soundproof, but we ask you to keep the noise level low and
    to close the door during use.
  • The lighting and ventilation switch on automatically.
  • The Solo boxes are not barrier-free.
  • Equipment: stool, small wall table, power socket.


Four boxes on the ground floor can be reserved online. The remaining boxes are freely available to all users.

  • Reservations are possible for members of the HU, the Charité, as well as all registered library users with proof of disability.
  • The rooms can be reserved for up to 3 hours a day / 9 hours a week.
  • Rooms that are not reserved are open to everyone, but must be released if necessary.

Cubes

Two work areas are available on the cubes in the foyer, which can also be used to participate in online events.
Access is only possible with a HU Berlin and Charité CampusCard. If the card is not recognised, it must first be updated at a CampusCard machine.

The ‘Alexanderplatz’ work area is accessible by lift.

Day work carrels

Eight day work carrels are located on the 5th floor on the west and east sides.

  • They are part of the HU-Homezone. Our break disc rule applies.
  • The cabins cannot be locked and cannot be reserved.
  • Some cabins are equipped with reading screens.
    Connection via HDMI or USB-C (cable available).

Quiet workspaces

Two quiet workspaces can be found on the 2nd floor, on the west and east sides respectively.

  • They are part of the HU-Homezone. Our break disc rule applies.
  • These are individual workstations for quiet work and cannot be reserved

Coworking space

This variably configurable room is suitable for both individual and group work. You can divide the room individually using the mobile partition walls. We ask for mutual consideration.
The room is equipped with a smartboard (instructions are provided), and a height-adjustable desk.

The room is located on the 2nd floor on the east side and cannot be reserved.
