Work areas
Looking for your Favourite Spot?
The Campus Nord Branch Library has around 500 different workstations spread across the three floors of the building. In addition to traditional reading rooms, there are group study rooms and various lounge areas. Almost all workstations are equipped with multiple power sockets.
Each of our six reading rooms has its own unique charm. In the ‘Stufenlesesaal’ (room 2.07), the history of the library building as a former chemical institute is reflected in the wall design featuring the periodic table. Reading Room C (room 2.26) offers a beautiful view of the city. The newly furnished Reading Room B (room 1.07A) impresses with its gallery and various types of work areas.
The somewhat cosier reading niches (located on the staircase side of the book collections) also offer workstations where you can work together with other library users. In contrast, the large book collection rooms have individual workstations separated by privacy screens at the windows (garden side) for a good work environment.
The digital learning area on the ground floor (room 0.42B) offers seats with comprehensive privacy screens, ensuring a low-stimulus work environment.
Computer Workstations
Twelve workstations are equipped with a PC with authenticated internet access. These can be found as PC area on the ground floor (in the foyer opposite the information desk and in room 0.42A) and a single PC is found in the book collection rooms.
In addition, there are approximately 190 workstations equipped with additional screens to which you can connect your own device. An HDMI cable is provided. Additional cables and adapters (Mac, USB-C, etc.) can be borrowed from the information desk on the ground floor.
There are nine group study rooms available in the Campus Nord Branch Library, located in different areas of the building.
Equipment
All group study rooms are equipped with a smartboard and an analogue whiteboard. The smartboards can be connected to your own device via various connections (e.g. HDMI, USB, USB-C).
Pens for whiteboards as well as smartboard sets (remote control, HDMI cable, smart pens) can be borrowed from the information desk. Other adapters and equipment are also available.

In addition to the group study rooms, there is an open group study area in rooms 0.32A, 1.15 and 1.17. These are equipped with several mobile tables, visual display boards and a smartboard and are particularly suitable for working in small groups. The open group study areas can be used without prior booking. Rooms 1.15 and 1.17 can be requested for events outside of exam periods: campusnord@ub.hu-berlin.de.
On the ground floor of the Campus Nord Branch Library, there are two meeting boxes (room 0.32B) for groups of 2-4 people, as well as two solo boxes (room 0.32A) for participating in video conferences. These can also be used for phone calls.

There are several lounge areas available in the Campus Nord Branch Library: four on the ground floor and one each on the first and second floors. All lounge areas are designated as communication zones – talking and phone calls are permitted here. Three of these areas are also designated as snack zones where you are allowed to eat. The lounge areas are intended for short stays and are ideal for a quick chat, a short break or to relax in between.
Nap Zone und Garden Lounge
The Nap Zone on the ground floor of the Campus Nord Branch Library has five beanbags and is seperated from the rest of the room by screens. This area is specially designed for short breaks – including a quick nap (approx. 30 minutes).
In addition, the sheltered Garden Lounge offers quiet workstations with a view of the garden. Here you can work, eat or enjoy a break outdoors in a relaxed atmosphere.
PhD students at Humboldt-Universität (with the exception of Charité) can reserve a workstation in the Coworking Space (room 2.16) at the Campus Nord Branch Library.
