Studying On-Site

Cloakroom

We kindly ask you to store any coats, jackets and bags (including laptop sleeves) in the lockers.

Our cloakroom provides several lockers for storing your personal belongings during the visit of our library. In order to use the lockers you will need to bring an open shackle padlock with a shackle thickness of 5-6 mm.

Stationery vending machine

The on-site vending machine holds the BiB-bag (a transparent plastic bag) for the price of 4,90 €. It is also stocked with open shackle padlocks (6,90 €) necessary for using the lockers. Whiteboard markers, USB flash drives, erasers and much more, are also available for purchase. Please note that the vending machine only accepts coins.

Workstations

The Campus Nord Branch Library provides about 400 individual workstations.

Do you prefer to work at a workstation screened off by shelves, or would you rather work in one of the large reading rooms?

The Campus Nord Branch Library offers several types of workstations to meet the different needs of its users. Five large reading rooms, several reading areas, eight group study rooms and various lounge areas help you to find a place that suits your individual needs.

Readingplaces

Our five reading rooms come with their own unique atmosphere. Feel the history of the library edifice, originally built as the university's chemical institute, in the "pitched reading room" - a former lecture hall (Lesesaal D). Reading room C offers a unique view of the city - for all those who don't get easily distracted from their work. The newly furnished reading room B impresses with its gallery and the various types of reading places - everyone will find a suitable place.

The somewhat more cozy reading niches (on the stairwell side of each open stack room) offer workplaces in the smaller community with other users. In contrast, in the open stack rooms you can find individual workstations at the windows (shaded side) with privacy screens for a quieter working atmosphere.

Computer workstations

About 24 workstations are equipped with computers connected to the internet. The computer workstations are located at the following sites:

  • on the 2nd floor in reading room D (Lesesaal D)
  • on the ground floor opposite to the information desk
  • on the ground floor in room 0.42A

Please use the floor plan (pdf) to find out the exact locations.

Reading screens

In addition to the computer workstations, we offer reading screens to which you can connect your own device in various places in the building. An HDMI cable is provided. For additional cables and adapters (Mac, USB-C,...) please contact the information desk on the ground floor.

The Campus Nord Branch Library provides a height-adjustable workstation on the ground floor and a family room on the 2nd floor.

Group study rooms

The library's eight rooms for group study are located on the first and second floor. The rooms are not locked and can be used during the library opening hours without prior request. There is, however, a reservation list for each room. Lists for the current week are posted at each study room's door. This enables you to get information about each room's accessibility. Reservations are recommended especially during the examination periods. The rooms can be booked two weeks in advance.

All group workrooms are equipped with a smartboard and a whiteboard. The smartboards have internet access, but can also be connected to your own device via various connections (e.g. HDMI, USB, USB-C).

Whiteboard markers and smartboard sets (remote control, pen, adapter if necessary) can be borrowed at the information desk for a non-monetary deposit.

Terms of use

  • Rooms can be booked for up to 4 hours a day by signing up on the reservation list
  • Individual groups can book a period for up to 3 days a week
  • No parallel blocking of rooms allowed
  • If users don't turn up within 10 minutes after the start of the reservation time, the room can be used by other people

Members of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin may use one of the five lockable book trolleys for up to one month (extension possible if there is no other reservation).
